Not having wanted to appear overly cynical and to possibly pollute good will toward the new
president, Barak Obama and his democrat majorities in both the
House and
Senate, I have remained strangely silent since his election. For almost two years I have waited ... and waited ... and waited. Waited for change I could believe in to occur and to mature.
From where I sit on the other side of the world he has made me believe that America could be good again. He appears to have introduced a health system which is trying to achieve almost as much as Australia's ie universal free health. He appears to confront volatile situations with an olive branch rather than a big gun. He appears to be trying to change a corrupt banking and Wall St system. But I don't have day to day contact with the machinations of the US I admit.
ReplyDeleteI am frankly disappointed in our no longer 'new' president. Not to say he isn't tremendously better than our previous president, the former TX governor George Bush.
ReplyDeleteAs you say, he is nowhere near as aggressive in advancing the American empire. However; I see nowhere he has backed off. 50,000 troops still in Iraq. 100,000 troops in Afghanistan. (3 times as many as when he took office). Guantanamo is still open. The Patriot Act is still in effect.
I will come out of silence soon and address these issues.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
